Lesbian Intimacy and Relational Awareness Group

Facilitator: Thomas Fronczak LICSW

Format: Confidential and ongoing support group. Each member makes an 8 session commitment. If after 8 sessions member continues to benefit, she is welcome to continue.

When: Thursday evenings. Twice per month.

Membership: Limited to 8 members. Adult women at various stages in their coming out process. Members may be single, dating, or partnered, however please note, this is not a partner/couple group. Members are without active or untreated substance abuse problems.

Goals:

  1. Help women explore and express their desires for connection with other women, as well as address barriers to that same connection, through developing a sense of Relational Mindfulness.

  2. Address issues of self-confidence, isolation and moving from an experience of disempowerment to living self-fulfilling lives.

  3. Topics to be addressed include, but are not limited to; coming into “voice” allowing for greater self-expression and authenticity in relationship, issues as basic as where and how to meet other women, managing inevitable and painful relational disconnections, as well as exploring healing ways of reconnecting; creating a safe space to discuss issues of sexual relationship and sexuality; exploring more completely what some have called ‘lesbian bed death’ – does it even exist, or is it a function of multiple relational complexities? We will also address the all too common experience of ‘uncoupling’ and managing relationships with past partners, as well as awareness of the normal developmental process of relationships. Decisions and experiences regarding family and children may also be addressed if relevant to members.
