Coming Out Group for Gay / Bi Men and Lesbians

This ongoing social support group is for men and women who are in the process of coming out to themselves and others. Members may identify themselves as "gay", "bisexual", "lesbian" or "questioning". All members are seeking support as they come to terms with their sexual orientation.

This group is designed to help men and women identify the stages of coming out (pre-coming out, coming out, exploration, first relationship, and identity integration - adapted from Eli Coleman, PhD, ASSECT certified sex therapist's model of the coming out process). We will also help members in assessing readiness of self and other for the disclosure. Issues of sexual health and sexual communication with partners will also be addressed. Plenty of time will be made for members to share their own personal experiences and questions. Focus will also be on developing a sense of community and skills to connect with others.

The group process will help members move from a place of judgement, invisibility and the closing down of themselves, which is influenced by homophobia, to a place of authenticity, self love and increasing self-acceptance. The experience can also be helpful in breaking the isolation and making connections with other men and women. We welcome all L/G/B/Q persons at whatever stage they may be at in their process.

All inquiries are confidential. Group members also agree to confidentiality for all personal information shared in the group. This is a social support group and not a therapy group. Sign up and RSVP through the meetup.com site.
