Part of my daily meditation practice includes taking a pause
from all that can distract in the course of a day, an hour, or even
minutes; and within that pause, taking a few deep soothing breaths,
allow myself to reconnect and focus on those many things for which I
have a great sense of appreciation, thankfulness and am grateful. I
call it my Gratitude Meditation.
I
have been and continue to be, so fortunate and blessed to have had many
wonderful influences in my life, both personal and professional. The
impact this authentic and caring connection, characterized by a sense
of empathy, relational curiosity and mutuality have truly been
transformative in my own my life. This in fact is a central tenet of Relational-Cultural Theory
(RCT) that it is through relationship that we grow, transform, learn
and deepen a sense awareness of who we are, as men and women, in this
world.
It
is with deep appreciation, honor and joy that I acknowledge those who
have contributed so significantly to my learning. While it would
be impossible to name each and every individual who has been a part of
my path, please know that though your name is not noted here, the
essence and appreciation of my connection with you is very much alive
in my heart.
To
my mother and grandmother who taught me by example that sharing and
giving unselfishly and without condition, are deeply gratifying ways of
expressing love, caring and honoring connection.
To
my many professors, supervisors, educators, professional colleagues and
friends; all exceptional human beings in addition to being such
skillful and talented professionals, who showed me by example, that
‘showing up’ and being fully present and authentically
human is the greatest gift in the healing arts. While the names are
many, I personally acknowledge, Margaret Manzella MSW, ACSW, Tom
Hammond MSW, ACSW, Barbara Wolfrum MSW, ACSW, Bill Kelly MSW, AASECT
Certified Sex Therapist, Lee Faver PhD, Bonnie Collins EdM, LCSW-R, Stephen Gillian PhD, Greg Salgueiro, MS, RD, LDN, Alan Roach PhD and all the founding scholars of the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute
(including but certainly not limited to Jean Baker Miller MD, Judith
Jordan PhD, Irene Stiver PhD, Janet Surrey PhD, Linda Hartling PhD, Amy
Banks MD, Maureen Walker PhD and Natalie Eldridge PhD). You have all
been deeply instrumental in my learning and professional development.
To Dennis Kiley - There is no greater proof of Sacred Contracts
than the connection we have formed. Your friendship continues to be a
cornerstone of joy and learning in my life. A significant part of my
growth in both yoga (philosophy and practice) as well as mindfulness
meditation I attribute directly to you. Prior to us meeting I had no
formal meditation practice. Today my practice of mindfulness has
literally transformed my life. I am deeply and forever grateful.
Through your authentic, generous and compassionate presence, you are a
true leader and healer making a difference in the lives of others. Who
better than you to help others in Discovering The Way. With many thanks, huge appreciation and deep care. Thank you!
To Seane Corn
- My admiration and respect as you know goes back many years. From my
first connection with you, I knew you were a woman with a huge spirit
and tremendous purpose. You walk your talk and give of yourself
unselfishly and with such open heart. Your spiritual advocacy,
relational awareness and ability to connect mutually and with great
empathy are a tribute to you as a compassionate human being as well as
a reflection of your mission and passion. How we live our life
*is* after all, our message. You have shown me a way, through your
living example of integrating Self, Spirit, and all that is Divine into
a life practice that I integrate into my own life both personally and
professionally, on and off the mat. With caring and compassionate
heart, I honor and thank you for your friendship and influence! Off The Mat, Into The World.
To Matt Fontaine -
Teachers come into our lives in a variety ways. Your extraordinary
ability to connect with others and remind them of their personal
strenth, value and potential contributes to your success as a certified
personal trainer. But so much more than that, it speaks volumes of your
personal character and success as a man, husband and father. Thank you
for being my teacher. Thank you for being my friend. You make a
difference!
To my colleagues and friends at Wayland Wellness Associates (Henry Przybylowicz LMT, Marie Sauro PhD,
Cecilia Dietzler LICSW and Mitch Dondey PhD). Thank you for your
confidence, support and friendship both personal and professional. I
have learned much from each of you! With great respect, it is a joy
working with you on a daily basis.
To
Maryellen Butke LICSW, PhD, Carol Adams LICSW, Eileen Hayes LICSW and
Cindy Doyle MA: Many thanks for believing in and welcoming me into the
Angell Street Wellness Collaborative, an extraordinary group of
independent practitioners while together, on the East Side. When
I moved to Providence , it was from within this supportive community I
was able to grow, develop and launch my psychotherapy practice here in
Rhode Island .
To David Jacques, an incredibly talented graphic and web designer,
for this newly updated website I am so very proud to have co-created
with you in a very collaborative manner. You are a huge spirit
with tremendous talent. Many thanks for your teaching and education
along the way.
And
last but certainly not least, to my clients over the past 22 years who
have been among my greatest teachers about life, determination and
courage. You remind me on a daily basis of the strength of the human
spirit. I am honored by your confidence and trust in me, the work I do
and the spiritual and healing connection we have created. I acknowledge
you humbly and with great appreciation.
Namaste,
